HOW MUCH MATERIAL IS NEEDED FOR 3D PRINTING

On this page you’ll find reference material estimates for 3D printing several Paragami designs at their default scale. Use them as a guide, not as a fixed figure for your own print.

The total weight and print time can vary significantly depending on:

• The 3D printer (type and brand)
• Print settings (perimeters, infill, solid layers, supports, etc.)
• Print orientation (printed vertically or horizontally)
• Printing blocks with or without numbers

Estimate your own print

For your printer and settings, your own slicer gives the most accurate estimate. Drag the entire model into the slicer and enlarge the virtual print bed so the complete artwork fits at 100% scale. Set your print settings and generate the G-code. The slicer then shows the approximate print time and material use.

The estimates use these settings and apply to blocks without numbers:

• Layer height: 0.2 mm
• Perimeters: 2
• Infill: 5% (Rectilinear)
• Bottom solid layers: 2
• Top solid layers: 3
• Extra perimeters if needed: on
• Minimum shell thickness: on
• Detect thin walls: on (this behaves differently on each printer and slicer, so test it for your setup)
• Supports: off
